Applied Quantum Materials Inc. (AQM) based in Edmonton, Canada, started operations in 2016 as a spin-off from the University of Alberta. AQM is an advanced materials company specializing in the design, synthesis and manufacturing and integration of Group 14 (silicon, germanium and carbon) nanomaterials and polymer nanocomposites into new products. AQM has 12 employees and over 100 customers (major universities, government labs, small and multinational companies) across 19 countries.

AQM is the first company globally to commercialize bio-compatible, heavy-metal-free silicon quantum dots ideal for biomedical applications requiring safe, non-toxic bio-imaging agents, implants and diagnostic reagents. AQM has developed a magnetic silicon-based product, along with reagents for COVID-19 nucleic acid extraction. The nucleic acid extraction kit has improved sensitivity and can extract low viral loads, outperforming major multinational vendors.

R&D Partners

AQM is looking for R&D partners that wish to collaborate to develop new medical applications (molecular diagnostics, theranostics, drug delivery and bio-imaging) using its nano-silicon technology.
